When you check into a hotel room, you might feel how soft or firm the mattress is, or tour the space and open all the closets to see what's in them, or maybe even lift the sheets to check for bedbugs. Well according to a flight attendant who is also a travel expert, another thing you should do when you first walk into a hotel room is place a shoe in the safe.
It might seem odd since the amenity is typically there for guests to stash their cash, passports and other valuables in, but there is actually a very smart reason behind it, and the flight attendant, Esther, shared it as well as other helpful travel hacks on her TikTok account. She called the safe trick a "game-changer," explaining, "Worried about forgetting something from your locker? Put your heel or shoe in it and you won't forget it!"
As for how it works, well since your footwear is an essential part of your daily attire, there's no way you'll forget it, and when you grab it from the safe, you won't leave anything else in there. Best of all, you don't need to use a shoe, any vital article of clothing like a coat or a belt, works.
Esther's video also includes other helpful recommendations including using a hanger to keep the hotel room's curtains fully closed, covering dirty shoes with a shower cap when you pack them so they don't get the clothes in your suitcase dirty, wrapping the room's TV remote with a shower cap to protect yourself from any germs on it, plugging a USB cable into your room's TV to charge your phone, and more.
