Concert Review: England's 70's supergroup, 10cc

How do I describe it? A two-hit' 1970's English supergroup making their return to North America for the first time in 46 years, I didn't know what to expect. WOW! What a performance. The body of work is vast. The songwriting is quirky and oddball and transcends any chart ranking tally. With three longtime members of 45 years or more, including the el Capitan' Graham Gouldman, the band orchestrated a 17-song playlist to the delight of the Ocean City Music Pier Audience!

I attended to hear the two hits that I purchased on 45-rpm vinyl as a teenager. I'm Not In Love and The Things We Do For Love were heavy-hitter chart toppers in the 1970's. I was really not sure how I could hang with all the other songs in between. I guess I could play on my phone? NO! I enjoyed the sounds coming from that stage. The songs were a collection of stories told in different arrangements, for lack of a better description. I learned new songs.

I was introduced to new songs that I like. Despite the fact that my two "hits" from the 1970's were positioned at #11 and #14 on the evening's playlist, I wasn't bored! Art For Art's Sake, Life Is A Minestrone, Good Morning Judge and The Wall Street Shuffle were performed to perfection. It wasn't a rock concert, it was a rock opera! I was watching a theatrical performance in song lyrics. Tommy has the pinball machine, Queen had it's Bohemian Rhapsody, 10cc gave us "The Second Sitting for the Last Supper." Founding member Graham Gouldman started writing these songs with partner Kevin Godley back in 1968. They formed 10cc in 1972 and the it was off to the (global) races in 1975 with the hit single, I'm Not In Love. It was a fun night combining musical folly, showmanship and genius.10cc keeping it whimsical and rockin' at the same time made for a fantastic experience. The 10cc North American greatest Hits Tour 2024 experiment is on the road and ready to rock your town!
