Wildwood is set to host its first-ever air show on September 5 and 6, following the cancellation of Atlantic City's annual event for the past two years. The new event, named "Wildwoods Thunder Over the Waves," aims to fill the void left by Atlantic City's "Thunder Over the Boardwalk." Wildwood officials are working with David Schultz Airshows, a company with over 30 years of experience, to organize the event.

The air show will be visible throughout the Wildwoods, with the main viewing area stretching from 22nd Avenue in North Wildwood to Hand Avenue in Wildwood. The event is expected to draw large crowds, similar to the Atlantic City air show, which attracted over 500,000 visitors and generated significant economic activity.

The Greater Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce plans to bring back the Atlantic City air show in 2026. Meanwhile, Wildwood's event will provide an economic boost to the region, replacing the "Roar to the Shore" motorcycle rally, which was canceled in 2023.

While the Air Force Thunderbirds and Navy Blue Angels will not participate in the Wildwood show, the event promises to be a family-friendly spectacle. The Wildwoods have become known for hosting large-scale events, including the Barefoot Country Music Festival.
